The Stinson Walk is one of Australia’s iconic hikes! Recount Australian history and celebrate the life of Bernard O Reilly; who heroically saved the lives of two plane crash survivors 81 years ago in World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park.During a stormy afternoon on 19 February; 1937; the Stinson airliner on route from Brisbane to Sydney crashed into the Lamington Ranges killing four of the seven passengers on board; sparking a search that failed to turn up any wreckage.Ten days later; Bernard O’Reilly set out on foot to find the Stinson wreckage. He managed to find the crash site and to his surprise; two survivors in desperate need of medical attention.To commemorate the historic aviation event; O Reilly s Rainforest Retreat will retrace Bernard s footsteps through the rugged McPherson Range to the famed Stinson crash site.
